Jets Draft Picks and More

As I sat and watched Tony absorb every aspect of the 2006 NFL Draft (along with nearly every pistacchio in his bowl), I couldn't help but wonder if he was re-living past draft blunders in his head.

When Lineart was still available at 4, I was cheering for the Jets to grab him, and I couldn't understand why Tony refused to join me. How could he remain so nonchalant? Lineart would have been the number one pick had he chosen to come out of college last year. The guy's a proven winner.

Tabloid gossip, sportscenter segments, and Matthew "Limmer" Young will all attest to the fact that he's a "cool guy"... reminiscent of Broadway Joe... one broadcaster even made the comparison of Lineart to Namath ("he'd be going from Hollywood to New York"). Although presumably, 35 years from now, Lineart won't be "slumming it", drunk on the sidelines of an NFL game, getting denied by a woman of Suzy Kolber-caliber... (the only other female that I would group her with is the mom from "Webster," and I can't see Lineart hitting on either of them).

What's more, Tony's scouting sheet (along with Mel Kiper) had Lineart pegged as the third highest rated player in the draft. How could Tony sit there and say that he would be happy with "the safe pick" of D'Brickashaw Ferguson? Who wants an offensive lineman when you need, and can grab, a franchise quarterback for your team?

Well, after viewing a video that's been floating around the Internet, I became a little more sympathetic towards Jets fans. Through the course of the one minute and a half-long montage, you can almost pinpoint the moments when the J-E-T-S faithful must have grown another degree more cautious, "gun shy," and suspicious that their organization could possibly be run by the writers of "Family Guy" (for more information see "Southpark")...

I'm sure every team has made their share of bone-head moves (the Eagles drafted Mike Mamula with the 7th pick in the '95 draft... Derrick Brooks, Ty Law, Warren Sapp, or Mike Mamula? Mamula's our guy!) but it's the fans reactions that really drive the montage and keep you begging for more agonizing groans and Jeff Lageman selections.
